1-6pm Historic Filipinotown Walking and Jeepney Tours
6-9pm PWC Backyard Barrio Fiesta

Join us for a day of walking tours, festivities, and a very special Jeepney unveiling in and around Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown in support of the Pilipino Workers’ Center (PWC)!

Although officially designated by the city of Los Angeles in 2002, Historic Filipinotown (“Hi Fi” or “P-Town”) has few cultural or physical markers to indicate the area’s status. On September 26, in conjunction with local high school students (PDUB Productions), Public Matters, Hypercities, and UCLA’s Center for Remap, PWC will launch its Mobile HiFi tours to give the public a better understanding of the neighborhood’s character, significance, and rich cultural history.

The Mobile HiFi tours will take place from 1-6pm, offered as walking tours with interactive mobile devices and local longtime residents as guides. We are also excited to announce the unveiling of PWC’s Jeepney, an original 1944 Willy’s Jeepney by the Sarao Company in the Philippines that has made its way to Los Angeles via Washington State. In addition to our Mobile HiFi walking tours, PWC will be offering our sponsors a limited number of seats on our HiFi Jeepney tours (find out how you can become a sponsor here!

Celebrate Historic Filipinotown’s culture and community later in the evening at a barrio fiesta right in PWC’s own backyard. Highlights include:

  • +screening of PDUB Productions’ Historic Filipinotown documentaries, shot and told from the perspective of local youth
  • +Jeepney photo opportunities
  • +local performers
  • +delicious Filipino food
  • +special guests
  • PWC Barrio Fiesta Entertainment Presents…

Re-D.mer, aka Michael Walker bringing the perfect balance between club hits, intellectual insight, catchy topics, and top-notch lyricism for all ages to enjoy. His main purpose: to change the connotation of “rapper,” and show the world that rap/hip hop can truly be perceived as an art that comes from the bottom of the heart.

    fighting

The Fighting Cocks are average human beings, living averages lives, who have average talent, who play average tunes. There is nothing really special about them at all.

Yes, they blend a Filipino musical aesthetic with poignant lyrics, steady rhythms, and masterful melodies, but who doesn’t?

    belle

Singer/songwriter Belle hits the stage with her acoustic guitar, having graced the stage with top Filipino stars like Dolphy, Randy Santiago, Glen Jacinto and the upcoming Juan Dela Cruz Band.

All funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorships will support PWC’s programs for Pilipino Trafficking Victims, the COURAGE Campaign, Immigration Assistance and Advocacy, and Youth Media (Pdub Productions).
